What is BBQ?
BBQ or barbecue is a way of cooking food where the meat is roasted on an indirect fire for several hours. The temperature ranges from 100 ° C to 150 ° C (212 to 302 F). If you heat up on the grill (200 ° C – 392 F and higher) or even start a fire, it is called grilling. During barbecue, the meat is usually seasoned with a special sauce or marinade. To prolong the taste and prevent drying, foods can be wrapped in aluminium foil before they are put on the grill.
Barbecue originated in the southern United States, especially Texas and Kansas. The BBQ flourished and become popular in the 19th century, when pork and corn appeared on the grill most often. Barbecue was not only about great food but also a way to bring family and friends closer together. Today, barbecue is still very popular in the southern United States, especially around holidays.
In addition to America, there are many countries that have similar traditions of cooking food on the grill with sauce or marinade. One of the best-known methods is the Brazilian style of cooking fish. On the Spanish island of Mallorca, pork is grilled on coal and covered with salt. In Greece, people usually cook lamb or goat in front of a charcoal fire. Koreans have been known for their barbecue for millennia.
Today, barbecue can be found all over the world – as long as you look for it, you can always find a way to enjoy the smoky flavour of your favourite meat on a grill.
Barbecue sauces are available in supermarkets and smaller shops or even on Amazon for the best convenience, in many variants. One of my favourite is Jim Beam 4 Variety Pack. But every chef will undoubtedly confirm to you that the BBQ sauce prepared at home is not only a thousand times tastier, but also healthier.
Why use barbecue sauce for grilling?
The main reason to use barbecue sauce is, of course, taste. But there are other reasons why you should consider using it.
Barbecue sauce can:
– help to tenderize the meat
– add flavour
– keep the meat moist
– form a nice crust on the meat
– protect the meat from burning
All of these benefits will help you to prepare the perfect grilled meat.
